Bid by Source

The Bid by Source feature allows you to set custom, granular bids for specific source IDs. This gives you the flexibility to deviate from the global campaign bid to optimize performance for individual traffic sources.

When to Use Bid by Source

  • Scaling Profitable Sources: If specific sources are delivering high ROI, you can increase their individual bids to capture more traffic and scale your results.
  • Cost Control: For sources that are performing poorly but you don't want to pause entirely, you can lower their bids to maintain a presence at a more sustainable cost.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Use this feature once you have identified source-level performance trends in your reports.

Step-by-Step Configuration

  1. Open your campaign and navigate to the Targeting & Restrictions tab.
  2. Locate and expand the Bid by source section.

  1. In the Source ID's field, enter one or more Source IDs and press Enter.

  1. In the Bid $ column, enter your desired custom bid value.
  2. Click + Add Bid.
  3. Save your campaign changes to apply the new bids.
  4. To update an existing source bid, simply edit the value directly in the corresponding source row.

  1. To remove a source override and return to the global campaign bid, delete the respective row.

Recommendations for Effective Bidding

  • Baseline with Recommended Bids: The platform provides a recommended bid based on real-time traffic data. Use this as your starting baseline when setting a source-specific bid for the first time.
  • Monitor the Min-Max Range: Our interface displays the minimum (10th percentile) and maximum (99th percentile) bids from actual traffic. Bids below the minimum likely won't win impressions, while bids above the maximum may result in overpayment.
  • Base Decisions on Volume: Only implement source-specific bids after you have collected several days of stable performance data for that source.
  • Incremental Adjustments: Adjust bids in small steps (e.g., 10–20%) rather than making large jumps. This allows you to measure the impact more accurately and revert if necessary.
  • Respect Ad Format Limits: Please note the maximum allowable bids by format:
    • Push: $1.00
    • Inpage: $0.70
    • Popunder: $0.50
    • Banner: $10.00
    • Video: Up to $20.00
  • Efficient Management: The source list supports pagination for up to 500 rows per page, making it easier to manage and bulk-audit a large number of source overrides.

Common Pitfalls

  • Setting source bids without sufficient data volume to justify the change.
  • Aggressively raising bids on sources that already exhibit poor ROI.
  • Overlooking the fact that source bid overrides are campaign-specific.
  • Inputting Source IDs with typographical errors or incorrect formatting.

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot Add Bid: Ensure all required fields are filled and the bid is in a valid numerical format.
  • No Visible Effect: Verify that the campaign is active and the Source IDs exactly match those in your reports.
  • Performance Drop: If performance declines following a bid increase, revert to the previous value and test with smaller increments.
